Traceability for a brand’s value chain

WHY SHOULD YOU IMPLEMENT TRACEABILITY?

The panelists

Traceability is a milestone of sustainability and a disruptive practice to apply to any supply chain. With Luca De Iulis’s guide, relevant people, who have implemented traceability in their organization, express their interesting point of view on this topic:

  • Viola Dalle Mese: marketing communication manager in Conceria Montebello who has the dream to become a zero waste tannery, It is the first tannery in Italy to get a gold medal from LWG, to testify the health of the planet as a priority for them.
  • Luigi Grosso and Riccardo Neri from Eurobrand Management, the pioneers in sustainable innovation and Co2 emission reduction. The three keywords for the packaging organizations are: protection, sustainability and cost savings.
  • Nicolò Giusti: Tommy Hilfiger sourcing and production manager, footwear division, who focus on the importance of the material used because material is where everything starts.
  • Massimo Brandellero: The ID Factory founder who believes sustainability is not just about business but it is a journey to travel across.

Traceability provide transparency

Luigi Grosso starts the conversation explaining how the pandemic is radically changing organizations and brands.

Traceability, transparency and sustainability will change the way firms are going to operate and will change the approach to the supply chain management: the health shopping experience is in the future.

Viola Dalle Mese said at Montebello they trace every single step of the process, these traces allow to give to the customer a clear and transparent vision of the work, providing a sort of identity card.

Massimo Brandellero introduces the solution he proposes as the founder of The ID Factory, providing a platform designed by fashion industry experts specifically for the fashion industry, to have full control in real time of the global supply chain’s.

According to Nicolò Giusti traceability and transparency are the right hand of sustainability since they really prove what a firm is actually doing.

He also stressed the importance of traceability since he started to adopt the ID Factory solutions in PVH.

From a sustainable point of view, this allows the customers to have all the information they need, from the efficiency point of view implementing a supply chain traceability system can save money, help to take control of all the steps of the manufacturing process and provide real data to make fast and smarter decisions.

Education plays a crucial role

All the panelists agree that education plays a crucial role in raising awareness among the young people.

A lot of managers today are not considering sustainability as a priority and they consider it just a cost that takes away monetary resources, and that is very disappointing, said Luigi Grosso.

Young managers must grow with a focus on sustainability and must be aware of the environmental and social problems that are affecting the world to consequently implement sustainability in every firm’s operations.

We all must put the attention on education to change the mindset and look at the purpose driven organizations that have done extremely well in the last ten years, such as Patagonia and follow their lead.
